Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará
Solemnity of St. Joseph
Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus..." (Mt. 1:20-21)
The Celebration of the Solemnity of our Patron Saint Joseph was anticipated with great joy on March 19, 2007, at St. Paul's Church in Harlem. The Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará celebrated their 19th year since being founded in 1988. The sisters prayed Matins together on the Vigil of the 19th at St. Gabriel's in Brooklyn. On the day of the Solemnity the Mass was presided by Fr. Gustavo Nieto the Provincial Superior of the Institute of the Incarnate Word.
Sr. María Madre de la Sabiduria took her final vows on this blessed occasion. The parish of St. Paul where Sr. Sabiduria is missioning, made special preparations and extended their efforts to make sure all present enjoyed the reception afterward.
The Mass also included the renewal of vows for three sisters in the province of the Immaculate Conception. The reception immediately followed the Mass where about 300 people attended, including friends, family and St. Paul Parishioners. We thank God for His many blessings!
Our Lady of Peace, Santa Clara, CA
In California, we celebrated the 19th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará with much joy! Many members of the Third Order, families and friends from Saint Leo and Our Lady of Peace joined us for Holy Mass and a potluck dinner at Our Lady of Peace. The main celebrant was Fr Walter Mallo, and the concelebrants were Fr Paul Coleman, Fr Rolando Santoianni, and Fr Marcelo Navarro. What made the Holy Mass even more special was that two of the home schooling children received their First Holy Communion. During his homily, Fr Mallo spoke of the virtues of Saint Joseph and challenged us all to imitate the perseverance, patience, and silence of Saint Joseph. The gym of the Family Learning Center quickly filled for the reception that followed, and we even had to set up more tables! We give thanks to God for our first 19 years and we ask Saint Joseph to keep us all faithful to our charism of inculturating the Gospel.
