Popular Missions

Part of our charism is to organize and participate in the Popular Missions: periods of intensive parish evangelization according to the method of St. Alphonsus Liguori.

According to Saint Alphonsus, the goal of the Popular Missions is “the conversion of sinners.” It is the call to a renewal of the Christian life of the faithful and a return to the friendship of God for those who have fallen away from the Faith.

The Popular Missions are usually about 10-12 days in length and generally include the following activities:

• Door-to-door evangelization: visiting homes within the parish boundaries, inviting everyone to mission events and informing them of the ongoing activities at the parish;
• Oratory for children: following the method of St. John Bosco, the oratory is an opportunity for children to play sports and games while practicing virtue and growing in their faith;
• Youth group: oratory for teens and young adults;
• Processions: most evenings, the Mission includes a Rosary procession or a Eucharistic procession; processions are excellent forms of prayer and also provide a witness to the faith for the whole neighborhood;
• Mission talk: each evening, adults can attend talks and discussions to increase their knowledge of the Catholic faith; various topics are covered, such as the Ten Commandments, the Sacraments, the precepts of the Church, etc.;
• Fogon: the mission closes each day with songs, skits, or other cultural activities;
• Family Day or Youth Day: some missions also include a day with activities for families or for youth, with talks, games, etc.
